Here they are resting after arriving in the mail today.

Barnevelders x5
Ancona's x5
Barred rocks x5
Araucana's x3

This is my second try at hatching. I had a faulty thermometer the first time and only one survived the first few days. This time I'm hoping to do much better!

Incubator has been on for a few days. Temp is stable at 37.7 if I split the difference between two thermometers (which are about .4 apart), Humidity is around 45 and I've fixed the auto turner that was broken when it came.

Not sure how long I should rest them pointy end down before popping them in. I've read between 0 hours and 48 hours.

24 hours is sufficient. The longer eggs sit out before incubation, the more their hatchability goes down. Yep those thermometers will really get ya. Another safeguard is to always have an analog thermometer in conjunction with a digital, just in case of battery failure in the digital. Anconas! I have been wanting to get some of those for awhile. Where did you buy these? Post on this thread in 21 days when they hatch; I wanna see the little peeps!

I'll update this thread as I go. Hopefully I can get some feedback if I'm about to do something detrimental, I thought I had read enough the first time. It was actually an analogue thermometer that was reading incorrectly.

First challenge is the wire must have moved on the auto turner so back to hand turning which wouldn't be too bad if I wasn't away this weekend. Otherwise temp and humidity seem OK since adding the eggs.

Just candled the eggs. 7 appear fine, 2 maybes and 1 blood ring, 8 clears. Not great, might have to settle for the eggs I can source locally rather than posted.

Out of the seven it's an even spread at least, only one araucana and two of the others.

Last 12 I had posted I cooked as my thermometer was out. 9 had blood rings and one survived to lockdown, its just started day 22 so looking poorly. Had much better fertility with that lot.

Day 14 and I have 9 eggs that look really good, Lots of movement. One of the maybes is alive and one isn't, one that I thought was a clear is active and is filling almost the whole egg. So excited I'll be locking down 9 eggs in four days!

So after not working for the first 14 days the auto egg Turner started working today for no explainable reason, hooray!

Just about to go into lockdown and blackout! No power and temp falling
If it's not going to be to long and the eggs are in the house in the incubator and you don't open it they will probably be okay....my broodys would leave the eggs for over an hour almost daily....I was afraid the eggs weren't going to hatch...but they did...so unless you can find a way of keeping them warm...I would leave them in the incubator and hope the power comes back on soon.
