Hi
Long time reader first time poster.
Despite much research on this site, I can't find the answer that will settle my concerns.
I am just about to build my first coop / run. It will be 12m x 12m split into 2 12x6 runs for alternation; the coop will be outside of this space.
My question: I always had planned to run snake mesh around the entire perimeter for 30cm under the surface to about 60cm above. From there chicken mesh wire will protect the remaining 1.3ms of perimeter. Due to the much high cost of running snake mesh for 48 linear meters, I was wondering if I need to snake proof my runs. The chickens will be in there coop every night and I will let them out each morning ( a chance to check for any crafty snakes waiting for them).
Keep in mind my coop will obviously be snake proof and I can clear the land around the chicken run so there are no hiding spots. Being in SE QLD, we have a lot of snakes here and they are not all nocturnal.
Let me know your thoughts. And to anyone who wants to tell me just spend the extra $200 on snake mesh, I get that, but I would really rather not spend it.
Thanks
