Feed inside the coop or outside? - Page 8

post #71 of 72
Lisa,
You made me laugh... I'm picturing King Kong... hahaha! But that is exactly what I'm hoping to avoid. tongue.png I just like the idea of them knowing I'm not a predator. In case I ever need to catch them for whatever reason. Plus I just love the idea of them liking me.. and wanting to hang out with me. I had a hard time with the mealworms at first too... I don't like bugs.. but I forgot to mention, they are dried. I'm not sure I could deal with them if they were alive either.

I'm hoping the coop is big enough... lol Part of that is going to be blocked off though... just a little bit. For storage by the human door. I'll be able to leave the big door open during the day and not have to worry about the chickens getting loose. And that's the wall I'm going to put the nesting boxes on. So I can collect the eggs from the storage area and not have to go into the coop. I'm also going to do a brooding area in there. (I'm tired of having chicks in my house! lol) Plus, that way the chickens can get used to the new comers that way. Hopefully making introductions much easier.

I really hope my Silkies straighten up. I'd love to have a d'uccle or two. They are so cute.

@HennyPenny2
What did you mean about feeling the same way on the forum? In reference to people thinking there is only one way to do something? Their way? lol Thank you for the link! That looks a LOT like the feeder I think I'm going to build. I'm still up in the air about feeding inside or out.

You mentioned rats and mice don't know it's there and it being rodent proof... Isn't it just in the little holes in the side of the bucket? A rodent could easily climb up in there and just sit in the bucket, couldn't they?

Throw me to the wolves, and I'll come back. Leading the pack.....

My chickens all currently free range so feed and water stays inside the coop to avoid other critters gaining access to it.
