Hello!! im new and i need help.

As my title stated i am having trouble. its nothing serious or at least I don't think so. I ordered ducklings from a company and there were five in the shipping box. one was already dead and another wasn't doing to well. long story short only one is alive now and i cried my heart out that week end knowing i couldn't do anything because I learned it might of been hepatitis.

The signs before death were backing up and shaking their heads, being off balance and not standing up, their heads were drooping and they couldn't pick them up, and when dying they arched their backs and flailed about. it was heart breaking to watch. if it isn't hepatitis and you know what it could have been and why my duckling is OK please help.

I know it doesn't seem like I should be making this thread but i cant figure out why my little Cayuga duckling (whom I call Mushu) survived though being exposed all weekend to the illness. I Am EXTREMELY grateful she didn't pass away like the others but I'm curious, I've ordered more ducklings and I have no idea if Mushu is just a carrier now or if she even has it at all. If you know would you let me know?

I would contact the hatchery.

It could have been dehydration, hypothermia, any number of things.  If it were some disease they probably would have known at some point, I would think.

Please PM me, or use @Amiga in the message if you would like to hear from me soon.

Do you have a good duck vet?  Perhaps at least get a fecal sample tested.

I think it was mostly likely just that they were weak and dehydrated from the shipping. This happens sometimes. If they don't get water and nourishment soon enough after hatching (or if they get too cold during shipping) they get weak and will start to die off like that. I think Mushu was just a strong little one who was able to make it though.
