Is this little chick safe where he pipped? I can hear it chirping away. I don't want it to die

That pip is not exactly where you want it to be, but the chick may still be okay. Chicks should ideally pip in the large end of the egg, instead of closer to the middle as this chick has done. This chick may have a harder time maneuvering inside the egg and zipping. However, I have had several poor pips (including some all the way at the small end) and the chicks have made it out fine. I'd just wait and see. It may need help zipping fully.

It just pipped less than an hour ago. I'm headed to bed so when should worry about helping it? How would I help?

There are several other leghorns in with this little guy. My daughter has been trying to get these chickens for sometime and if anything happened to them I would just die. I'm such a worry wart.

I had one pip in around the same spot a couple days ago. It was out within 4 hours, maybe give it until morning? There is lots of info on assisted hatches in the forum. I've got on that's piped at the narrow end of the egg now, waiting a few hours to see

:hugs ! Gmorning hows that lil one?? Have you read Sally's guide to assisted hatching? Just in case to be fully prepared i reccomend that you do so now. Following her directions really helps. I have a interbred clutch of duck eggs, and 5(!) were malpositioned assists that lived. That being said; Sally's advice on that guide is priceless and you may Need the info. Those assists were Nerve Racking! Good luck to you! :fl

Good morning and thank you for asking. We have 4 that have pipped and only one pipped close to fat end on top side. They were peeping away this morning before I left for work. I haven't touched them. I'll be back home in a bit to check on them. I can't find the assist guide you mentioned but, I'm working from my phone and its hard to find or search on it. Does anyone have a link I could possibly get to it?

Thanks and I'll post pics in awhile

It made it out. Looks totally lethargic but breathing. Looks like a cord or something is still attached but keeping an eye one it and the egg it moved. It to is one that pipped in the wrong place. Hopefully it gets out this afternoon. It's on its side now
