Take a look at this rescue duck

Hello! This are two rescues we recently got. My hubby talks about them in https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1052234/introducing-new-adult-ducks-to-my-flock. I took this picture today because I'm just wondering if they look normal (well, as normal as can be) for an undernourished duck. I googled all different varieties of skinny, thin, malnourished, undernourished duck and couldn't really find anything helpful. I have pictures of both - their feathers aren't waterproof but they've both been bathing every day and already look much healthier.

They look bright eyed and curious. Standing, walking, eating, swimming; all good signs. I'd say they look fine and dandy. Congrats on the new ducks!!! I'm sure they will love their new home!

Do you know how much they weigh? I am trying to figure if they are Cayugas or Black East Indies. Gorgeous! Very similar to my little Rowena.

Good nutrition, watch that they don't get chilled (since their feathers likely get soaked), and enjoy! Please keep us updated.

Cayuga Black East Indian
Size Medium / Large, Meat Duck Bantam, Ornamental
Head Long, finely formed. Short.
Bill Long, top line slightly depressed. Black. Rather short. Black.
Eyes Full. Dark brown. Of medium size. Dark brown.
Neck Of medium length, slightly arched. Short, nicely arched.
Wings Short, folded closely and smoothly against sides. Long, well-folded.
Back Long, broad. Of medium width, rather long.
Tail Slightly elevated; composed of hard, stiff feathers; sex feathers of drake, hard, well-curled. Slightly elevated, composed of short, stiff feathers; sex feathers of drake, hard, well-curled.
Breast Broad, full, prominent. Full, plump.
Body Long, broad, deep; carriage, nearly horizontal. Long, comparatively small—the smaller the better; carriage, nearly horizontal.
Toes Lower thighs, short, large; shanks, of medium length and size; toes, straight, connected by web. Very dark slate. Lower thighs, short, plump; shanks, short; toes, straight, connected by web. Black.
Plumage Lustrous, greenish black throughout. Lustrous, greenish black.

In any event, I'm positive these are not Black East Indie ducks.

I know ther are a few other differences between them, but for me, the weight is the defining characteristic.

Rescue update! It's been a week since we brought the new girls home. I tried to get some side by sides and profiles but they are moving around with the flock and it's hard to get them by themselves anymore. They are getting waterproof and look like they're gaining weight. Today they came up and nibbled my sweatpants and boots. They are chatting with the flock too :-D

They are beautiful and look like they have really come a long way Congrats!!
