Surviving Minnesota!

Ralphie, I had an interesting experience this week. I went out to my feed shed to get feed to give to the birds. I could hear something moving in the back corner behind a large metal garbage can which has feed in it. I could see fur but could not make out what it was, so I went and got a flashlight to shine back there and discovered a (Jerry has not eaten one of these) skunk. Needless to say I was careful not to get it too exited or nervous!
I called a friend who is a big time trapper, and he told me how to remove it without it spraying. He is gone now and seems to be in no condition to return. Just in case I have thoroughly repaired the spot he dug in from.
This is likely the only time I will be within 3 ft of a skunk without being sprayed?

Never too busy to say Good Morning to BYCer's

I am impressed, to be within 3 ft of a skunk and not have burning eyes and a regurgitation reflex occur is amazing. I am surprised you didn't smell it before you entered the shed...

Had that been me, I would have had competing odors. One odor being the skunk, the other being the smell of feces coming from my undies. I am really wondering how you got it out of there without it stinking up everything. Did it involve a bucket? did you just grab it by the tail and lift quickly so the back legs where not on the ground? I think we need to discuss what you did further. I am assuming the skunk has lost all desire to return, eat and almost any normal skunk activities. Did the skunk walk into the light?

Good morning Jerry and Erli...

I tried to set my E-Z set gopher traps. I could not figure them out, I had find a youtube to show me how to do it. I have figured I must be slow, beings I could not figure them out on my own.

I had to move Lizzie from on top of her breeding coop back into the layer coop last night. I am wondering if she will eventually think of the layer coop as her coop if I keep moving her every night. Anyone have an idea if that will work? Or am I going to have to lock her into it?

Ralphie, I think if that was not her coop before she needs to be locked in for a few days.

My juvie pullets sleep on top of the window like their brother did and from outside the coop it's too high to reach, from inside they will just fly off screaming bloody murder. I will have to wait until the weather cools and the windows get closed some.

Well I will be leaving soon . Going to help my grandson today . Got a list of tools to bring and his lawnmower needs carb cleaned . Yeah he should have watched me over the years . Could not get him interested .
