Surviving Minnesota!

Hi All.

I had to come in for coffee, I am moving birds this morning. I was trying to get them moved before it got too light and they got too excited, I failed. There is lots of crying whining and complaining here. It appears they prefer the friends they choose fro themselves over the ones I am assigning them.

I need to get baths done today, but it looks like it will be raining soon. Erlibrd is it raining up there? Chickmom? I am trying to pick people NW of me to see if the rain is there.

Anyone wanting to help bathe chickens and help at the Chicken SPA day come on over. We will be shampooing, massaging, and applying lotion to their combs and legs. We will be giving pedicures to their toes, I have decided to forgo the toe nail polish.

Also we are going to do a rapid tame down on a CLB cockerel. I am throwing the one I have picked out for Hutch out into the pen. I found one I like better yesterday standing in line for the camp bus. He is moving up in rank while the other is demoted. Demotion can be hard on them.

I really wish Andy had a crest. He is by far my best looking bird other than the lack of crest and the rocky terrain on his comb. I might decide at the last minute to bring him instead. My purpose with showing the CLB's is to try and get people looking and interesting at them and not to have them judged. But judging of them is cool too..LOL

Ralphie is glycerin water rinse part of your bath routine?

Glycerin rinse?? This will be the first time I have ever given a chicken a bath. Really!!! In 60 plus years living wityh and around chickens I have never seen, or even heard of giving one a bath until I came to BYC..

What's a Glycerin rinse? Should I be doing this? I have thought about putting a rubber band around the crests (the pony tail kind) while the crest dry to assure a nice neat crest. But I was worried that might be considered faking and I would get thrown out of Hutch.

No rain here at 9:00am.

As for the Glycerin rinse, we added a little KYjelly to the rinse water. I read somewhere that you could purchase glycerin from the pharmacy but you must ask for it?

Well Glycerin is the good part of cold process soap. And when you buy commercial soap they remove that part and sell it on the side through a pharmacist...yes. It is a water soluble humectant--softening moisturing skin. That I've used and first saw used in a Youtube video.

The lady used a 3 bucket system for her birds in the video.

Squirt of Pet Shampoo--warm water Splash of Vinegar-- warm water Glycerin squirt--warm water

As I've stated previously I don't show...but I looked it up for poops and giggles because I wanted to give my birds a spring bath. And I've done that since then. It seems to make them sparkly. I don't know....

I think Minnie gave you some tips didn't she.... Our show-girl...?
