Surviving Minnesota!

Maybe... ducks do seem like more thankful creatures than chickens.

Ducks should be thankful! If mankind was sufficiently evolved into a true civilization they would be extinct!

@duluthralphie I saw one of the hens I got from you drinking from the nipple waterer today!

A large wild turkey out under the bird feeders just now. Well the dog just scared it away..

I am amazed, I cannot get them to drink from the nipples. You must have not only taken my egg layers but those of mine with the highest IQ's.

I had hung an extension cord (hillbilly wiring) from tree to tree to the lean too I keep my bobcat in. I have my bobcat at a friends heated shop to work on it. I went to start my truck and it was cold. No juice at the plug in. I went and followed the extension cord back and it had snapped in the cold, I guess I did not have enough slack in it. I noticed on the way to my friends the highlines are stretched pretty darn tight too after this cold.

Most the birds are doing ok. I have that one batch of roosters that refuse to go into the coop. They sit outside on the roost like "macho men". I had one frozen in place sitting on the roost. It was hard to pry his dead claws off the roost. And I lost a Yokohama. I am glad I did not cull my back up roosters and decided to keep them in a breeding pen.....FYI I have a box coop, with roosts, and wind breaks for them and they are still dying. Oh well saves me having to process them and make skinny chicken for dinner some day.

I am going back to finish the bobcat tomorrow so the roosters and turkeys I had planned to process get a reprieve.

I know the thermometer says 20 degrees, but it is still cold in that wind!

Jerry, Sasquatch is going to have to split and carry wood like everyone else at the cabin does.

Also, has anyone noticed someone missing lately from the thread? Rumor has it one of our members is somewhere warm, with lots of one armed bandits and show girls.......I never wanting to rat anyone out will not tell his, But I will reveal his initials..They are EJB..

I hope he doesn't freeze too badly when he steps off the plane in Duluth from the 80 degrees temps where he is at now...just a little frostbite is all he needs to be reminded he abandoned us during the nasty stuff...

They must have learned from my high IQ hens.

Came unplugged or actually snapped/broke??

I know they aren't 'pets' but it's still sad they died out in the cold.
