I candled eggs..This year stinks.
19 chicken eggs to hatch on the 16th. One was good the rest some quitters. most were non-starters. I candled Turkey eggs while I was at it. Half were no good, the vast majority of those were non starters. I have 25-30 to hatch on the 23rd.
So I have no choice but to set more eggs....Chickens and turkeys. I set cream legbars, Doms and Speckled Sussex...and one lone Chanticler egg. Feed gobbling non-producers.
I made some changes today. New rooster all around. I lost one rooster during the changing of the guard. I think the EE ( Ole the 4th) did not like being turned out and replaced with a legbar. I want bluer eggs...(which means I will have to hatch some EE eggs too this year). Ole the 4th took it out on a Dom. Oh well, I had too many roosters anyways.
Why do roosters think they should attack hen turkeys? They always lose to them and the hens never give up once provoked......
