Got a call today about chick problems . They were dying with bloody poo . Cocci from not feeding medicated chick starter . I hear it every year from newbies . Coworker of my grandson . Even my grandson did not know . Never paid attention .

yikes. That is why i always start with at least 1 bag of medicated feed. I tend to try and keep things as natural as possible for my flock but why not give them that extra chance at building a strong immune system when they are so fragile.
I fed my CXs a little late night snack just now. hoping that having a fuller crop/tummy will help them stay warmer tonight in their new pen. I put the tarp on since i shared photos this morning and also set up some cardboard to block as much wind as possible. they were all snuggled up under the heat lamps but not too bad. they have 2 125w bulbs and i can flip on to a 250w if needed. I do worry just a bit about the thunderstorms forecasted for sunday. i took a gamble moving them right outside from the brooder so we will see how it goes!
I also saw something cool. one of my SLW hens moseyed over to the tractor and made this low clucking sound i hadnt heard before and all the 45 chicks ran over to the fence right by her! it was so cool! it amazes me how much instinct animals can have without anybody showing them how. My SLW has never seen a chick before
Welcome to this thread Chibisan. How many chickens does White Bear Lake allow you to have? I am one year into this adventure myself so that means I have not completed a full cycle of raising chickens because they have not molted (loose their feathers and regrow new ones.) Learning happens fast and your questions will be answered here. Any question you have. This was a good idea on your part and i wish I would have found this site before I started my adventure.
Thanks for the welcome! It appears we're allowed 4 hens.

Well, this is just a fine Howdy Doody!
I have been up for 2 hours and not one of you were considerate enough to post something for me to read this morning...
Well, fine! See I am posting my own post to read now..
BTW I am leaving here in 2 minutes for Monticello, for important meetings. Well, important in my mind. No Birds hatched today, I think this batch is done.
Time to go, talk to you all later.
have a good day,,
Yesterday was cool , cloudy and blustery . Could not find the energy to do much . Today is sunny and expected to be near 70 . Much better . Some Morels have been found in our area . I may take a look myself today .
I'm going to burn my bottom today (I get the joke this time ) it is damp which is in my favor. I should have done it yesterday when the wind was lower but oh well. This will give the flock an additional acre of area to range as it grows back. Now it is tall dead scrub grass half way to my knee and impassable for them.
