Adding a chicken to our flock

Our chicks are just 4 weeks and not yet in the coop. A friend of a friend is trying to find a home for her chicken Thelma. Thelma was Thelma and Louise but Louise was eaten by a hawk. Thelma is a year old and I was thinking of taking her. This was her daughters project or something and she is headed off to college so they really don't need or want to keep her. Is this a bad idea? I know I should keep her for at least 30 days not with my flock to make sure she's ok right? Are there any tips or ideas? I feel bad for her being by herself. With the pecking order, I wasn't sure how this would work or whether or not it's a good idea.

Hmmm.....you can keep her in the coop, that I assume you have ready for your chicks, but if she brings pests/diseases with her she will contaminate the coop with them...not a great way to start your chicken keeping career.

More info about your chicks, coop, climate, plans to put chicks out in coop might help...but I'd pass if I were you.
