Hi BYC people! I am Fay Tyrrell. My son Brent Tyrrell started with pullets this July 2015. We decided on Dominiques (2), Big Black Jersey Giants (3) , and Mottled Java (3). We do have a Brabanter rooster named Jerome. We had success in one hen starting to lay. We believe a Jersey Giant. Now we believe another breed has started to lay as the egg is lighter in color and shaped in more of an oval like a normal egg. We are looking forward to continue having success through the winter. We picked the hardier breeds due to the fact we are north of Syracuse, NY and it tends to get pretty bitter cold. We have decided to use the litter method for the winter with leaves and straw to help compost the garden. It's so exciting that my 14 year old son has decided to invest all of his money into sucha a great project! I am so very proud of Brent's Beginnings!
