Worming question

Last week a used Rooster Booster wormer to worm my birds. I hadn't seen any worms but just did it as a precaution. I was cleaning the poop board yesterday and saw lots of worms in the poop. Shouldn't the wormer have killed them? I went to the feed store today and got Strike III type B wormer as the Wazine didn't have a withhold time, just said not to use on birds that lay for human consumption. So I guess my question is does the wormer kill the worms or just make them be pooped out?

I mixed the whole bottle with a bag of feed and let them eat it until it was done. I refilled their feed containers a couple days ago with untreated food. I've got 22 chickens and wanted to be sure they all ate it so I didn't refill anything until they'd eaten all the treated food.

It kills the live worms but not the eggs. The eggs can hatch into worms so you need to treat two times, 7 to 10 days apart.

The problem with rooster booster and strike is that the little pellets are not evenly eaten by the flock. Some birds will not eat them and so others will eat more.

Try getting a different worm medicine that you give to each bird separately, like valbazen or hors paste.

Since I already have the Strike I'll just use it, but maybe try to get each of them to eat a few before mixing into the food? Then use something else going forward.

Since you're seeing worms, probably best to get them started on something ASAP.

Do the worms look like this?




If so those are large roundworms. Wazine could be used for these, but Wazine won't treat cecal worms or capillary worms.

Since you saw worms today, treat them with something else in 7 to 10 days after this treatment.

Valbazen is a great choice!
 
Oh GROSS! No they were smaller. I think I might have thrown up cleaning the poop board with those on there!
