I have several chickens that I bought from another person that didn't want to raise chickens anymore. Several of the hens have bald spots on their backs from over breeding. Will they get new feathers back or will the spots stay bare? We are coming into winter in my area and its starting to get very cold. I was worried that they might get frostbite on their backs. Is there anything I can do to help?

They will grow back quickly once the rooster is gone. Give them some high protein treats or replace their layer feed with a grower or all flock feed to help regrow feathers.
The roosters have been gone for about a month and a half now. We have been giving them high protein treats and started giving them vitamin water recently. Maybe we should try mixing feed? Layer and feather fixer?

Personally, I haven't seen good results with feather fixer and at 18%, if you mix it, you are only going from 16% to 17%. Are they molting as well? You're probably looking at more like 2-3 months to completely regrow the feathers.

Not molting. They have been this way since buying them. They just aren't getting any new feathers in. If it takes 2-3 months then maybe in another month or so they will get the new ones in. Is there a chance that they will get frostbite on their backs?
