Newbie stupid ? Alert about winter

Thank you all for your answers. I think things are going as they should be then. I appreciate your help!

Two things, OK three, that I do in winter is put up a tarp or two for a wind break on run. The north corner for me is prevailing wind so cover that. Secondly have a covered area or shovel snow and put down a thin layer of mulch hay (inexpensive hay) for something to walk on when its icy. I run with smaller coops so promote them to be outside for space and they prefer to be out so with a few adjustments they are cozy even with a north wind blowing. OK, there is a forth thing for me which is to keep food and water outside too but that's not only encouraging them to be outside it's also due to my use of smaller coops.

No no the coop is pretty big. That's the size of the opening when you open the door.
Yeah, sorry - somehow I missed that the first time I read it. Let's just say I should never respond to a post before my first cup of tea in the morning...

A piece of plywood leaned up so to offer a wind break and as the others said, a little hay on the ground. If I know it is going to snow, I will put the hay in the run in a small stack, then the next morning, flip it down on top of the snow. This makes about perfect mulch for the garden next spring.
