Hey all, newbie chicken owners here... We purchased an eventual coop for our four chicks off craigslist. Any changes that need to be made to make it a good home or does it seem good as is?

For winter I'd partially cover the openings so they aren't sitting in a cross draft at night since there is a large opening on each side. I'd also probably make the floor solid and cover with bedding, maybe put down a piece of vinyl flooring, to make cleaning easier. I personally don't like trying to get wire flooring clean. I'd also put a lip across the front of the nest boxes to keep bedding inside. You also might want to put down an apron around the coop to prevent critters/predators from digging under.

Awesome! Some great points. We are in Florida so our winters don't get very cold, would the draft still be much of a concern as it backs up to the fence? Maybe we can figure out a removable covering for the few nights a year we'd need that. Great idea with the vinyl flooring and the lip across the nesting box, I could definitely see them knocking that out.

I'm in central CA and our winters aren't very cold either, where my coops are located it's wind I need to block. My coops are pretty open so we put up temporary walls made of that clear plastic corrugated roofing stuff. Easy to put up and take down and blocks the wind in winter.
