Coop is finished, chickens are home.

Well, color me surprised!
It's been pretty hectic around here. The holidays, my husband not feeling well... But today, when I went to clean out the hen house, I got a major surprise!

EGGS! 6 beautiful eggs!
Now, everything almost everything I have read and been told is that most hens don't lay during the winter. And it sure is winter here! What a great feeling that was...
Of course we ate them for lunch. Heh.
A couple hours later, we were working in our garden, and I saw 3 of our 4 hens come out of the hen house. I opened it up, and...

Another egg! Amazing!
We have been spoiling them terribly. Modesto Mills Organic laying crumble and Modesto Organic scratch.
My husband goes out and talks to them a few times every day, and they crowd around the fence and talk back. He puts his fingers through the fence, and they very gently rub their heads on his fingers and purr to him. Almost made me cry the first time I saw them do it.
Almost all their feathers have grown back too.
Totally made our day.

I am sure you will be very soon! Its the what seems like a compulsion to keep on buying / breeding increasing numbers of chickens. I think almost everyone here on BYC suffers from this particular affliction.

This got me this summer. Our first season hatching and we've gone from 12 birds to 78.
The yard is a circus when I let them out for the day :D
