He's a Production Red. Rhode Island Reds are a deep, rich mahogany red.

I agree; he's a Production Red, although he's dark enough that he might have been marketed by a hatchery as a RIR.

Production Red.

Breeder of Dutch bantams, Wyandotte bantams, and a few exhibition rabbits.

Feel free to ask me questions about chicken and rabbit care, breeds, and showing! I'm always happy to help!

Nature's first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf's a flower

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay. --Robert Frost

I think Rhode Island Red, maybe not SOP but still?  I think a lot of the production reds don't get the nice yellow legs.
