Christmas Hatch

awww to cute, and pretty good hatch rate.

I stuck 2 eggs we got as it's winter and they are laying at odd times when nobody is out there so we find alot of frozen eggs that cracked from freezing, these both were just laid and still warm, not opening the incubator this time unless humidity gets to low, not even gonna candle them see if I can get them to hatch

Your chicks are adorable! I'l be posting pics of my first hatch ones soon. Lol They are growing!

Those are just tooo cute. My chicks are nearly as fancy as that.

Good luck! I hope it works out for you. Keep us updated.

Will do. it's hard to resist the temptation to candle them to check how they are doing but this incubator is driving me nuts trying to figure out how to hatch at higher elevations. to date only have had 3 sucessfully hatch, should be better now we fixed the problem with malpositioned chicks, stopped the egg turner at day 13 and went from 80% malpositioned to 2-5%

Don't know what I'm gonna do come spring when the hens should actually start brooding themselves.

Good luck with the winter hatch! Our weather is now finally in tune with the season and the fun of frozen water (ugh). These chicks are lucky to be inside right now!

yeah our chicks are inside too here, outside we have them on 5 gal waterer that has a heated base but still freezes when ya hit -37 for a week

one good thing about hatching them inside is they are used to being around ya and being picked up, hopefully they don't loose that when they go out with the flock that free ranges

It's worked that way with mine. I can call for the chickens and they'll appear out of the brush to say hello; one of mine even comes right up when I call her (my barred rock hen)

My RIR will come but not the older roooster we got when he was 2 months old. my friend was laughing cause I would go out to the farm and say hows the babies doing and the RIR's would come a running, the Barred Rock rooster is like catch me if ya can, but has decided running up to ya from behind and raising hackles is a game with my friend that is making me a little nervous, and when company is coming out we put him in Chicken Jail he doesn't seem to like guys out at the farm or if you wear shoes he doesn't recognize lol

We didn't have a rooster, then someone dumped one a red roo, (I found a home for him,) but let's see if he got in there...I don't know if we have fertile eggs, they will be mixed. 3 big light colored ones in upper right are LO, the 3 in front are a greyslyn, a green egg (Blue isbar), and one more greyslyn with bloom. the far tan on the left is a australorp/LO, and the little tan is a bantam. 2 small tan eggs to the top left are LO/cochin mix. Let's go for X-mas!
