Trust me CTKen when I was woken at 04:45am by Blondzilla and her mum GodCilla [Cilla] apparently auditioning for the lead roles in Blondzilla Meets GodCilla, I had thoughts of rehoming some chickens also

However, they are my pets and my babies so don’t tell them I said this, but no chance of that happening.

Blondzilla has spent two days in the broody breaker, getting to sleep with her flock mates on the roost of an evening .. we shall see how she goes tomorrow.

She did have company today though, GodCilla was in a broody breaker right next door. GodCilla is actually OK with people when she is broody, not so much her flock mates; she makes their life unbearable. Besides Cilla, the only other gal without a bruised comb is Dusty and that is only because Cilla can’t reach it!

Cilla was last broody 4 weeks/11 eggs ago .. she goes broody anywhere between 8 and 12 eggs after the last bout

I probably should be careful there after reading how frequent it is for you. But my oldest are only 9 months old and we had one trying to go broody but she was not committed. Now I do not want all 8 of them doing it at the same time or all the time, lol. But one would be a nice little surprise here and there hatching out a few little babies.

So, Day 3 and this morning I found Blondzilla pancaked on the nest box cover because she could not actually get to the nest underneath .. back to broody jail.

Because GodCilla could not get to the nest boxes either, she was busy bashing everyone up .. back to broody jail.

And, just to make life interesting, KiKi may be thinking of having a broody spell herself!

If this keeps up I might just have to move the non-broodies to the broody breaker with the nest boxes and give the broodies the coop and run cos I am going to end up with more in jail that out of it!

Lol! I feel bad for the ones behaving! I have a leghorn that for a month or so I guess, randomly will try to sit on eggs. She will sit there for hours, but when she decides to get up she may or may not go back to trying to sit on them the same day. We collect the eggs everyday but there are also fakes in the boxes still. Sometimes she will sit there for 2 or 3 days, day and night, then not bother for a day or two. She's only nine months. Plus being leghorn. I read they do not go broody pretty much. I think she's trying but being the first time maybe she's uncertain? I don't really know. Maybe she's just really tired sometimes?? I am new to chickens really so I have to learn everything here as I go along.
 
Chickens do some weird and wonderful things!

I have a Bantam Langshan who has never been broody. However, maybe 2 or 3 hours after laying her egg, getting out of the nest box and returning to her normal daily routine, she goes back to the nest box and hunkers down for a couple of hours or so. Then gets up again and wanders off.

She has done this with every egg she has laid. So that the broodies could roost with the flock, I blocked access to the nest boxes every afternoon and now just do it as routine regardless of broodies. Anyways, if I close it before Dusty has done her ‘second sit’ she will jump up and down and throw herself at the divider until she can get to the nest and then promptly parks for a while.

I have a Frizzle Pekin who just totally skips the 3 weeks on the nest bit and goes straight to teaching, protecting and feeding invisible babies .. much to the delight of the rest of the flock who are more than happy to be her babies and eat the meal worms she gives them.
