I have a couple of big package of round steak and thought I would fix it for Sunday Dinner. We had stew last week so would like something a little different. So if you have a good method or recipe for rouns steak that takes ingredients found in most kitchens please post.

I usually don't buy round steak but I only paid 7.00 for two big packages marked down.

Thanks,

Susan

My family likes my version of salsbury steak. It is really easy, and cheap. Serve it over mashed potatoes or noodles. I put the steak in the slow cooker with chopped onion (lots), salt, pepper and garlic. Let it cook for an hour or so. Then I add canned diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. You can dilute paste if thats all you have. (you can use tomato juice too) I add beef broth and simmer til the steak just falls apart. My DH doesn't like it real juicy so I thicken it with a little corn starch. Adjust your amounts of canned tomatoes and such to how many servings you need. If you want more specifics let me know. I am one of those judge and dump kind of cooks!

Oh, I forgot you can add green pepper too! Also I use the italian diced tomatoes but if you don't have those you can just add italian spice. Celery is good in it to. It really just depends on whats here!

Chicken Chick,

DO you brown the meat before you put it in the crockpot? I have everything except beef stock. May have a cube or two I will have to check. I think you gave me enough details that I can go from here. I did not think about adding tomatoes or paste. Sounds good.

Thanks, Miss Prissy,

I actually am going to use your CFS recipe soon for some cube steak I bought the same day.

I don't have a meat mallet and I will not be going back to the store before tomorrow when I plan to cook the round steak.

Great! I am glad it made sense! I do not brown it first. I usually use the bullion cubes. I think it would be ok without it. I have used the beef seasoning packet from Ramen noodles before! I really know how to cheat!

You can use a small neck bottle - like an old coke bottle - it will work fine for bashing the meat.

I also slow simmer with a pouch of lipton onion soup mix to make a gravy.
