It's not uncommon. If he was in severe shock then it's possible.

A very long time ago I had a pair of silkies.  A 2 legged predator stole the rooster, and did kill  him in some ritual or something. ( currently serving time in the BIG HOUSE for unrelated crime)..  One week later silkie hen passed. :hit  She seemed healthy all along..     I belive it is very much possible.  Who knows, maybe  he kicked her away as he took the rooster???
