No it isn't. All you need to do for a beginner is to cut a lot of 4 to 6 inch squares and then sew them all together in rows and then sew the rows together.

After than you can add batting and a backing and then you can "sew in the ditch" (which is to follow the seams) and then....Wallah! your first quilt.

If you need any help, we are here to help you.

anyone???

I have seen quilting frames made out of PVC. have you thought of using that to build one. Let me see if I can google a pic.........BRB

Found one.... http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GGIH_enUS248US250&q=Picture+of+homemade+PVC+quilting+frame&um=1&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title
Click
on the 2nd image and scroll down till you see the same pic.

Or you can go straight to the plans for one...They are in PDF format http://www.pvcworkshop.com/QuiltingFrame.pdf <---- how to build a PVC quilting frame.

Hope the link works for you Parsonswife. I have heard that these are easy to make and they can be taken apart for storage, or made to stay permantly together. Can't wait to hear if you've built one or not.

Hi,
I thought I would show you a baby quilt my mother handstitched for my son.
It is the star pattern, since it is a baby quilt she had it done fairly quickly.
Thought it might give some of you ideas. I have other quilts she and I have done together, and some my grandmother made for me. (Graduation and Wedding) They are priceless to me.

Oh, My......Parsonswife-----That is gorgeous!!!!! I love it

I understand why its an heirloom. I think I would have to have that shrinkwrapped and put away until the recipient was old enough to have it. If they aren't old enough yet.

WOW!!!!! I can actually see the love in it.

Thank you. No, they are not old enough...it hung over the side of his crib till he outgrew that, now I keep it in tissue paper...till he marries, or I'm old and feeble...maybe not even when marries...maybe first child...

And since he just turned 5....

I would have to wait until the first child came along, I think it would be even the more special to him. It is a lovely piece though.

I made a star quilt throw and gave it to my neighbors for their 50 wedding anniversary.....I am going to have to go and get a picture of that so I can post it here. It turned out so pretty. Completely sewn by hand.....to any newbies that means just a needle and thread.

Just a thought for anyone out there in the sewing world......I have 3 metal bobbins that I cannot use. Is there anyone here that can use them? PM me and let me know.
