Automatic feeder for FF??

I am just wondering has anyone found any type of an automatic feeder for the fermented feed? And if so, do you feel like your chickens eat more FF then they did dry feed. I would love to find something that works well. Thanks
 
I havent used FF I use 7 grain organic non gmo scratch mixed with 21% layer crumble. I mix 3 parts crumble to 1 part scratch. For a treat I give 7 grain organic non gmo sweet feed. I am starting a sprout and fodder system since there is no longer grass to give them.
 
That sounds interesting. I am new to FF. My chickens always had feed available to them at anytime up until roost then we removed feeders til morning again. Now that I am doing FF my husband swears I am starving them. I feed them in the morning, then again in the later afternoon/evening. But they LOVE it. They see us coming and they run to us and follow us. I can not feed them fast enough. So to please him (and get him off my back) I was trying to figure how to have some out there kinda steady through the day. But I honestly think they would just eat it til they bust.
 
I haven't let it get to the fodder grass stage before, but I have done the sprouts before. The chickens go crazy for them. I have a 5 gallon bucket I turned into an automatic feeder. They only eat until they are full. Honestly they are too busy scratching up worms and ants in their run to over eat. I walk out and one of my roosters starts crowing calling me to come to the run. They all come running to the gate if i say chick, chick, chick and follow me. Some of them even play tag with my german shepherd mix.
 
Several of us have considered a bulk auto feeder for FF but haven't come up with something that will work well yet. Let us know if you do.
 
AuntNomi - I feed mine in the mornings & late afternoon....They put themselves in their coop that's in my patio, in fact they hang out in the patio most of the day. I close them up. In the morning I let them out & put their feeder (trough style) & water into the run. I put water in the coop at night.

I saw someone came up with a 5 gal automatic feeder, similar to that of grain, with elbows but the problem seems to be the silicone....Think the vinegar affects it so it ends up leaking. Hence I'm using the red plastic chick feeder with the lid removed, Hubby elevated it with 2x4 base and added a handle. I need to take pics to post.

I'd like to try the fodder but not sure I can get the seeds here in Hawaii. I started a mealworm farm, which I've done in the past, my pullets for a fenced in yard of grass to grub in.

Anyone come up with a workable automatic FF feeder PLEASE pass it on....Need to make it simple for Hubby when I go do my Grandma trip in the summer :)

I have not been able to find anything that works well. I also feed in the morning and evening as well as anytime in between that I think they may be hungry. My husband absolutely hates me using the FF because prior to it we had feed in the coops all day long til they went to bed and then removed it for the night and replaced first thing in the am. He swears that I am starving them. He goes out there and puts scratch or feed in their old feeder (makes me angry) He's gone and bought flock blocks for all the coops. I can not convince the man I am not starving them. lol I love my chickens, I'd never do them harm.
 
Have him pick them up and check to feel how hefty they are. Have him feel their glossy feathers. Birds who are not being fed well are light wt for their size, have not much meat on their keels, and their feathers are ratty. Also, the color of their combs and legs is a good indicator of health. If the legs of a bird look washed out, they're not holding as much nourishment (poorly worded, I know) as they are if their legs are nice and dark (based on the breed and natural coloring for that breed.)
 
Just put some dry feed out in the old feeder that they can pick at throughout the day. It can be hard to figure out exactly how much to feed if you're scooping it out. There should be some crumbs left over so you know everyone got their share.
Overall, feeding fermented feed saves me about 20%.
