"Rescue" bantams

So I'm obsessed with chickens..... I drive 1.5 hour to go get some yesterday (it takes that long to get anywhere lol). There are 4 pairs, 1 trio, and 3 single roosters. I show up and they are all in probably a 1.5 foot by 2 foot boxes. It's basically plywood with and doors hinged on. 3 tall by 5 or so across. They were in over an inch thick of chicken poo. One rooster lost all his toes to frost bite last year and their water was so gross ! I didn't realize it would be a rescue type situation... I wasn't planning to really take all of them....

The lady told me, don't let them in together, they'll kill each other. I trusted my gut and put them accordingly into the horse stalls. Everyone was fine! I've never seen such happy chickens!! They LOVED the dirt and fresh water!

I went down last night to check on them.... There were chickens EVERYWHERE!!!! I had forgotten about the whole flying thing...... So I had to catch them all and clip their wings in the dark. It was an entertaining day! I might not be able to "save every life ", but every life matters and deserves to be saved when given the opportunity.

Any help on their breeds would be appreciated I didn't listen to the lady when she told me, I was kind of in shock...

I only took pictures of the roosters, one hen, and two pair. They aren't very friendly, not mean, just scared.

I can't tell you what breeds you have. I just wanted to applaud you for your caring and humanitarian efforts.

It just makes me ill knowing that there are animals out there that are not cared for properly. Sounds like the conditions they were in was essentially abusive.

If you keep them all then I hope you have planned out what to do regarding having so many roosters. You may have to rehome some of the roosters or make separate runs for each pair.

Thank you!!! I don't understand why people do that.... I can't stand it. I think it was borderline abusive

I have 12 acres I'm hoping to let therm. Free range on and then safely lock up in the barn at night. We have dogs to help keep raccoons and coyotes away. If it doesn't work, I will rehome but I'm going to be picky!

My sentiments exactly.

Well done for giving them a real nice home.

The bottom photos look like Old English Game bantams.

Next of up looks like Mottled Japanese Bantams.

Next on up.. looks like Japanese Bantams X 2 and the one at the back looks like a Seabright Bantam.

Up again to the big grey fluffy ones . maybe cochin chicken bantams or pekin bantams.

Not sure of the one with no toes.

And the top photo maybe some kind of game bantam.

These are only my guesses... hope it helps.

So long as they all free range there should be little problem with roosters fighting.. but they might fight if you coop them up together and they don't have enough space.

BTW... maybe not a good idea to clip their wings... they can't fly up to roost high.. and can't fly away from predators. I don't clip mine as they free range and need to be able to fly to get away from predators.
