Araucana Chicken not Eating... Seems Lethargic?

I have an Araucana chicken who stays up in the coop all day and doesn't eat or drink. When I bring her out of the coop she just freezes and hangs her head. She is new, but the one I got with her is doing just fine and is getting along with my chickens really well. I put them both in a kennel to introduce them and it worked with my other one...

She seems lethargic too. I'll give her food and she'll eat it like crazy for a couple of seconds and then leave it alone, and she doesn't bother with water. She just stays in the coop all day and hangs her head. Whenever I pick her up, it seems like she droops/sags, and today she wouldn't get off of my hand when I put her back in the cage - she just laid there.

I am also pretty sure she is done laying. She was supposedly still laying when I bought her, but I think that the guy who sold me them was just trying to get rid of some non-laying chickens.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

It' s possible that she could be ill with coccidiosis, or she could be suffering from some disease such as internal laying or egg peritonitis. Do you know how old she is supposed to be? Has she been wormed recently? I would worm the chickens, and give them some vitamins and probiotics in their food. If she is having diarrhea, or hunching or puffed up, then giving her a round of Corid in the water fo 5 days might help.

She is supposed to be 1 years old. I am pretty positive she has not been wormed. Her poop isn't at all irregular, so I don't think that's a problem.

This is probably a (very) stupid question, but do you take them to the vet to be wormed? I am new to chickens.

Thank you!

Most farm stores carry worming medicines. Chickens can have 4 main types of worms, roundworms being most common, plus a few rare ones,. Wazine or piperazine in the water for 24 hours will get round worms. Valbazen 1/2 ml orally once and repeated in 10 days will get most all chicken worms. SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer or the Equine paste will get most worms with a dosage of 1/4 ml per pound orally for 3-5 straight days. There are other wormers but there effectiveness is a little iffy.

Ok. I think I'm gonna try Valbazen for her. Thank you!

I read your post from a few days ago? I was wondering how your chicken Agnes is doing? Did the Valbazen help her? I hope she made it.
She is doing a lot better. Another person suggested that I get Permethrin II for her and the rest of the flock, and I am running into town to get it for her today.

I'm so glad to hear she's better. Did the Valbazen help her? Had u given that to her while she was still feeling bad? Before giving the Permethrin? Something has been going on in my flock. Just started a round of Corid last night thinking it's coccidiosis...just not sure but I don't want to love our beloved Easter Egger.Hawk is so so sweet and special to us. Had treated with Wazine 10 days ago and today was suppose to be retreat with Valbazen. So afraid I was going to lose her yesterday its so hard to distinguish the different symptoms I have been a reading fool trying to learn what I can they r like a part of the family. NNot everybody views them that way but we do. Anyway, I'm so glad she's better and hope she makes a full recovery.

Yes. I hadn't even given her the Valbazen yet, just seperated her from the rest and she was getting better. The Valbazen did significantly help though, and I didn't see any Permethrin at the store, so I'm just gonna give it to the rest of the flock as well. I love mine very much too, even though she is new, I took a liking to her from the first time I saw her.
I just noticed that she was acting weird and droopy, so I'm glad I posted and didn't lose her!!
Hope this helps!
