Gift cards like mentioned and I love checking out the signs on etsy about chickens (money can't by happiness but it can buy more chickens which is pretty much the same thing lol)

A gift card to either a hatchery or a feed store would be the perfect gift as the chicken owner can use it to purchase whatever he or she needs or wants.

I s there a good book besides Storeys for a beginner?
Yes, the Mini Encyclopedia of Chicken Breeds and Care by Frances Bassom is excellent, and despite having the word "mini" in the title it is very comprehensive.
