Duck Egg / Chicken Egg Values

Hmmm, fascinating. I do know that in at least some cultures, duck eggs are reserved for those who're not feeling well - they are considered medicinal.

And there are differences in the amounts of certain minerals in the eggs - according to the USDA.

4. Duck Eggs are an Alkaline producing food, one of the few foods that leave your body more alkaline which is a great benefit to cancer patients as cancer cells do not thrive in an alkaline environment. Chicken eggs are an acid food leaving your body more acid.

Sorry, but this is pseudoscience. The body naturally regulates its pH within a very narrow spectrum.

The unsubstantiated theory is based on lab studies that suggest cancer cells thrive in an acidic (low pH) environment, but cannot survive in alkaline (high pH) surroundings. While these findings are accurate, they apply only to cells in an isolated lab setting. Altering the cell environment of the human body to create a less-acidic, less-cancer-friendly environment is virtually impossible.
While proponents of this myth argue that avoiding certain foods and eating others can change the body’s pH level, these claims stand in stark contrast to everything we know about the chemistry of the human body. Acid-base balance is tightly regulated by several mechanisms, among them kidney and respiratory functions. Even slight changes to your body’s pH are life-threatening events. Patients with kidney disease and pulmonary dysfunction, for example, often rely on dialysis machines and mechanical ventilators (respectively) to avoid even small disruption of acid-base balance.

Quote: If the public would know more about the value of the DUCK egg, there would be a better market for the duck egg. So many people are allergic to the Chicken egg through no fault of their own. I am so thank full to learn that I can enjoy an egg if it is duck egg. No one appreciates a duck egg more then a person that can not have chicken eggs. There is so much more value in nutrients in a duck egg then a chicken egg.It is worth while checking in to if one needs to build up their health. My area is over stocked with BYC organic chicken eggs, but not the BYB organic duck eggs. I had to get my own ducks to get my own duck eggs.

I keep reading that duck eggs are alkaline or alkaline producing, but cannot find one link to a reputable website (by that I mean a university or some other institution operating verifiable studies and publishing verified results).

Only statements on various blogs by people who farm duck eggs... and I am not aware of any blogging farmers who have scientific equipment and study participants to run scientific studies to prove/refute this claim...
so where did it start and why are people so eager to claim something as a fact just because joe bloggs published it on his jo blog? And why are people so happy to accept as fact, something someone who clearly has not themselves conducted a scientifically proven /verifiable study publishes on their blog without any evidence to back it up?

It’s like... oh if someone posted it on their page, it MUST be true...let’s disengage all intellect right here and just believe it!

I’d like to believe it cos I rescue ducks and sell their eggs, but I need some proof!

Has anyone got some reputable links to scientific studies about this?

I rescue ducks and sell their eggs but do not want to make claims on my page that I cannot back up with scientific studies

Where are these theories and claims about alkaline duck eggs starting from?

Sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me too. I found this though,

"I’ve heard that duck eggs are alkaline. Is that true? I’ve heard this claim as well. As far as the duck egg itself: no, they’re not. The yolk is full of fat, and fat is an acid. Do they turn to alkaline in your body? So many health gurus claim they do, but I don’t know if enough research has been done on this topic to verify that."
