I have a chick of SCEL and looks like a male, So do I want to cross with Marans for next generation?

In that case, new chicks probably won't be so "Super" anymore lol

I wonder how that would work genetically. When I've crossed Leghorns with blue egg layers, I get a lighter shade of blue than the parent hen laid. I believed it was from the white egg gene diluting the blue so to speak. I'd think mixing white with brown would give lighter brown

. I've not done that cross so don't know for certain, though. I'd love to hear input of anyone who has crossed a white egger with a dark brown egger.
 
I have been wondering that too. I bought eggs from @MyPetChicken so they might have the answer.

I'm not sure, but from hearing it in context I think "super: refers to the number of eggs the hen would lay, and yes a leghorn/marans cross should give you lighter chocolate eggs.
Just wondering how many eggs a leghorn/marans cross would give you? My marans lay the least number of eggs of any breed I have. If I wanted a higher number of eggs, I wouldn't keep any.
 
I just hatched three of these SCEL eggs from MPC. Two came out fluffy yellow chicks (as expected), and one came out black and yellow! These birds were being described as splash whites when they grow out, but I'm wondering if my black/yellow chick was either a mis-marked egg or a marans mix? Here is the chick. It came out of a white egg marked SCEL just like the other two but hatched a day later.

Has anyone else hatched these eggs and gotten a non-yellow chick? Thanks in advance! Also, if anyone has ideas as to the type of chick this is I would appreciate your thoughts.

 
That is so exciting!! Good luck with them! I really enjoyed hatching these my first incubator chicks. So much different from having a broody do it! They sent 4 eggs and although one was clear, the other three hatched. The two yellow chicks hatched at day 21 but this was more than 24 hours after. I almost gave up on it but wanted to give it a full extra day. So I waited and lo and behold! The dark black and yellow chick! So glad I was patient! Please post when yours hatch - I would love to see more of these hybrids to compare males/females later on when its time.

Thank you! They are actually 3 of 27 eggs I ordered. Since the eggs will have codes on them, I plan to put dividers in at lockdown to make sure I know which came from which kind of eggs. I'm so excited! I hatched a duck two years ago. The only one out of 7 that developed. Hope I have a better hatch rate with these mail eggs! I'll post first week of April when they hatch! I'd love to see pics of yours when they start to feather.
