This 6 5 week baby was supposed to be a black Australorp ..wondering what everyone thinks. I'm not saying what I think as to breed and gender ...

Its definitely not a sex link rooster. Black sex link roosters are barred and red sex link roosters are white with red leakage on the wings. Black sex link pullets are black with gold leakage around the neck. It's unusual for them to have this much gold on them but not impossible. I suspect that you have a mixed breed that's a cross between a buff chicken and a black one. I have had Australorp/ buff Orpington mixes that have looked very similar to this.

Kinda weird to have such a cross, they are from rural king so privett or town line hatchery lol. I do love surprises tho, can you post Pics of your thanks!!

It looks like some sort of mix, but since it's from a hatchery I wouldn't rule out black sexlink. Odd mixes are still possible since most hatcheries buy eggs from independent breeders, hatch, and sell. An Orpington or something may have gotten mixed up in someone's Australorp flock!

No signs of being male so far, looks like a pullet to me :)

I'm also thinking female. It could be something in the black breasted red family, with that pretty salmon breast. The body feathering is a bit dark, but that could just be hatchery variation. Although, those dark legs do rule out most of those breeds.....agree it could be a black sex link pullet.

it would be interesting to see pics in a month or so.

The leg color is just throwing me, none of the breeds in a black sex link have slate legs I thought. I am leaning to black Sex link though and if so she's a hen, but any doesn't look like the others tails says rooster to me, Roos just stand and grow different.
