Hi I have 1 week old silkie bamtan chicks. Could you make them where they like you or will they always skittish? I love them to death but I don't want to scare them. Also if they are growing black and white feathers will they be black and white? :yiipchick

Let me expand on that.

You've noticed that these three babies are tiny. Imagine how scary you must be to them. So the best thing to do is lower yourself down to their level.

The best way to do that is get comfortable on the floor and let the three chicks wander around on your lap. They will want to climb into your lap because they are very curious and they love to try out being on higher places.

Hold your hands palms up in your lap. Don't move. Let the chicks explore and wander onto your hands. When they do, slowly lift your arms up and down. They love this, and it won't scare them.

Do this every day, and the chicks will get more trusting. You can teach them to come to you by using treats, (meal worms are a huge hit with chicks), and use a verbal cue when you call them. This will be very useful later on when you want to get them to go into their coop.

Soon, your chicks will be climbing all over you and having a ball. Try it! It's great fun!

My purebreed silkie chicks are calm and they let me pick thrm up. Are yours purebreed silkies?

My Silkie chicks don't like to be handled, and they wig out when I have to do things in the brooder. But, eventually they figure out that I bring the food and decide they like me. When I walk through my breeding pens, I have to shuffle or I'll step on them :D
