broody chicken

Okay, I will not get an adult hen and stick to trying the chicks. We have raised chicks before. Will the broody be mean to other hens while raising chicks? And will she let us interact with the chicks?

Every broody is different. How it goes can depend on your broody hens position in the flock and whether your hens are easy going or not. The broody need to protect the chicks from the other hens who may try killing them, or they may ignore them. Be ready for anything, but hopefully it goes smoothly. If your broody is friendly the chicks should be friendly. I have found a daily treat of scrambled eggs can make any chicks friendly. Good luck.

Hi I was wondering if you could help me? I very new to this but I think I have a hen who is broody basted on what I have read so far. My question is would her being broody affect my other hens as well? Since she has started this my other two hens have not layed any eggs. I had been getting three eggs a day for serval months now but it's been three days now and I have only gotten one egg which was from my hen who { I think } is being broody. Any ideas on why this is happening? I would really appreciate any thoughts you might have. Thank you for your time.

Try sitting her on fertilized eggs (from a friend or look online). Less at stake then if you get day olds.

You may end up with Roos too though, so you'll need a plan for them.

Same here. Fairly new to broody....our last lot were commercial laying breeds. We've got Sussex and australorp now. Loving the prettier hens.

We had an australorp go broody and sat her on a friends fertilised eggs. One chicken is crazy clunky since they hatched and has joined the 'family'.

We have three other hens as well and are only getting 1-2 eggs a day at the moment
