My broody hen was sitting on four eggs. One hatched the other died at pipping stage and I realized that the hen isn't staying on the eggs. I have two fixing to hatch both are pipping but the membrane was dried up. I don't have a incubator so I rushed the eggs in wrapped them in a damp warm towl and put a heating lamp over that. Is this good enough?

Do you have a thermometer? the temp needs to be 99 - 100 degrees Fahrenheit
As long as the temp is not above 101 it is good, a tiny bit cooler then the right temp (about 99.5 degrees) is better then hotter.

OK that sounds fine then, I hardly ever use a hygrometer, as long as it doesn't seem too dry or moist it should be good. The temp is the most important thing in my opinion.

Sorry one died.
It's always good to have a bator, just be careful cause hatching is quite addictive

LOL. I wish I could hatch some eggs right now, but I have to wait til spring to hatch some fuzzy chickies. I do have a pigeon egg in the bator
but that doesn't count... cause I'm putting it out under a foster pair to raise as soon as they get broody.
