Took Flapper to the vet. I'm so glad it's not worms, or coccidiosis. The vet lady said he has a soft tissue injury, and said if it was broken, he wouldn't be using it at all, and there's no swelling, heat, or redness to indicate that there's any infection. She showed me how his joint looked different than the other and that it didn't bend the same. It didn't make sense to her why he isn't eating. She said it's probably anxiety from being away from the other ducks and being in the house. She said to put him in a separate pen, where he can see the other ducks and put one of the girls with him. She said it's not good for a hurt duck to be free ranging, because the duck would be an easy target for predators. She said it's best for him to not use his foot, and that we could continue the epsom salt compresses and warm baths. She said sprinkling his food in his water dish or bath water might encourage him to eat. They showed us how to tube feed and gave us the tube, in case he still isn't eating. She said to use 40 ml of baby bird food, or his regular food made into a thin enough paste to go into the tube. They said to make sure it's warm, and test it on your skin like you would with a baby bottle. The assistant lubed it first to make it go down easier, and said to make sure it go's down the right side, and not the wind pipe. He said if it go's down the wind pipe, the duck would freak out and go bananas. While he was plunging it down, he said to do it slowly and make sure nothing comes up. He said if it does, let him up so he can get it down before plunging the food down him again. They gave us 1/4 Carprofen tablets for pain, to give him once a day for 5-7 days. Flapper had no care in the world, he was given some water to drink, and he got in it, made a huge mess, preened his feathers, and had himself a good 'ole time. The vet lady said if he was sick, he wouldn't be acting all perky like that.
Edited to put, "She said sprinkling his food in his water dish or bath water might encourage him to eat."Edited by DiamondSwan - 3/22/16 at 8:24am
