Frindizzle's Chat Thread - Page 18

I found a kitten hiding out under the coop yesterday morning. He's feral, and all skin and bones, poor thing. It looks like he's been on his own for a while, at least a week. We gave him some wet food and water and didn't leave him alone all day. He was always in someones arms, or eating another spoonful of Purina. He hisses at everything preemptively, (you know, just in case) or if we laugh or sneeze. Maybe giggles sound like hisses, or he has his pride to protect, but he hates 'em. And the confused, protective, wants-to-cuddle-the-kitten dog. To us, the fur ball is an absolute sweet heart. Poor guy loves to cuddle and starts purring whenever someone opens his cage door to say hi. I can't tell for sure, but we're guessing he's 5-6 weeks old. Once he gets some muscle mass back (and a bath- yeesh, motor oil, dirt, a couple ticks, congealed cat food from the first feeding frenzy) and we can see if he has a good family cattitude, we will seriously consider keeping him.

The chickens are a little affronted that our interests have been directed towards their coop squatter.

Dragons are a lot like cats. They sleep with one eye open, tail a-twitch, and will rain fiery death down upon you should you disturb them.

Poor guy! The momma cat must be nearby ..... be careful. Have you named him?

We don't have very many strays in the neighborhood (2? 3?) and if he's been away from his momma long enough to get that starved, she may very well have abandoned him out of necessity or be dead. We also have raccoons, an owl, a coopers hawk, some very unfriendly dogs, and suspected foxes wandering around- it really is a wonder he survived. We don't usually name a pet until we have some idea of their personality. Purrsephone was named after the Greek goddess Persephone, who spends half the year above ground in the mortal world (summer) and half of the year with her husband in the underworld (winter). With our Purrsephone, who is a tortie, it is more like 60/40 in favor of 'don't touch me, I'm in a bad mood and just wanna reign supreme'. For now we are looking through Scottish names and various mythology, historical figures, Latin (Sylvester means 'wild'... hmm...), and unique variations of silver and gray, like Argent.
