So I am interested in starting up a flock. only did chickens before . How are the eggs and whats the laying amount they give??? I was also wondering how they taste?

The amount of eggs your hens will supply will be based on the breed you choose. You will need to decide why you are keeping chickens; for eggs everyday? For different breeds? For pets? For fun? Then you can select breeds.

It will also be space dependent. You can only keep so many birds in the city and they need room. That will determine how many.

As for taste? I assume you have eaten eggs before? I find that my pasture raised organic egg are much better than mass produced eggs. The yolks are a rich orange almost red at certain times a year. They are packed with omegas and a huge part of our diet!

Good luck

So, as I understand it, you are going to try raising pheasants now? Pheasants are very poor layers compared to chickens. That's not really why they are raised... there are some, like perhaps the melanistic mutants, that are raised for fryers/roasters. Or in other words, meat.

I have eaten the eggs and the taste is similar to chicken eggs at least to me. Smaller though. My pheasants were all ornamental pets, so I'm afraid I can't tell you what the birds themselves taste like... never ate one.
