We couldn't resist...when they had the banties for $1.75 each, we ordered 25. They were shipped yesterday and normally only take a day to here from Ideal (they're in TX and we're in NM), but the cold weather and holiday packaging shipping has apparently slowed them down...hopefully here tomorrow. From their currently listed available banties...looks like the batch will probably consist of cochin (blue, black, buff, partridge), d'uccles (mille fleur and porcelain), silkies (black, white) and OEGB (BBR)...know there's a chance at any other oddball that might have hatched, but we'll be excited, regardless. Always fun to figure them out. :) Just hoping they all brave the cold snap en route really well!

I got mixed pullets from them last fall, really had to control myself to not order some of the bantam specials also. The pullets have done well I expect them to start laying in the next six weeks or so. Good luck with your babies.

All 25 arrived safe and sound this morning. So far it looks like the majority are bantam cochins (LOVE!) and a great variety of colors of them. There are solid black chicks with black legs that must be either moderns or OEGB and some that I'm scratching my head over...one in particular is white (not yellow) with a couple distinct black dots on his back. Been running through Ideal's chick pics and can't figure it out. He's got not feathering on his shanks either, so not a splash cochin. A few others are probably d'uccles (again, LOVE!). Was really hoping for a couple silkies but I'll get over it...especially since my batch of splash Silkie eggs arrived today from a hatch-a-long auction on eBay. :)

Oh trust me, I know. I LOVE surprises...but yet cannot seem to keep from guessing and looking at chick pictures! lol We just won another Greenfire rare assorted auction today (our second) and LOVE the surprise of the rares they send, but they are kind enough to also provide a shipping list of what they sent after the box is on the truck.

That is so cool! How exciting! I had been looking at those specials too but I'm biding my time until Feb. or March. Nice to know the hatchery does a good job.

When I ordered the mixed pullet special and received my 25 chicks the wife wanted to know why I ordered that many. She didn't really see the humor when I told her because I restrained myself. They had several other tempting specials at that time besides what I needed.

Funny thing is, "chicken math" has now infected my husband. This started out as MY hobby but he spends even more time with them than I do now (with school and work) and he really enjoys rarebreedauctions.com and the neat birds we've acquired from those auctions.

All I can say is... That site is the only way we can afford the rarest breeds that Greenfire and Brinkhaven and others carry...So now we're both hooked. Our second Greenfire assorted auction ships next week and we're stoked to see what we get this time. It's truly addictive! So, yep.... You're doomed. We now have about 70 chicks in house growing out, a full incubator and another Ideal shipment scheduled for February and the Greenfire next week. :)
