The weather goes crazy and so do the birds... Rant post, come and relate your everything-goes-south-

It has NOT been a restful night here in my flock...

Weather is absolutely NUTS. Torrential rain since early this morning. Walking on this muddy ground is dangerous and driving more so. I have... 12 BIRDS... in my house. 4 quaratines. 3 injury. 3 chicks. Misha who does not like cold. And an entire Tom turkey.

Quarantines were supposed to go out to the coop tonight. May have changed my mind on that one. One of the peafowls is missing... my mom's favorite of course, the imprinted peahen. I just found my Royal Palm Brooks next to the swimming pool 100 FEET from the coop. It seems a wing clipping is in order. He's sopping and currently asleep in a towel in my laundry room... I don't have a cage big enough...

My favorite Silkie chick just came up with wry neck as well... so that's another sickly bird in addition to my Marek's stricken CornishxKoShamo pullet and my Silkie cock with an infected eye from my jerk Silkie roo...

I've been sailing smooth for several months now with very few flock problems at all and suddenly everyone is absolutely losing their cool.

EDIT: Oh and better news keeps coming in! Our "security guy" (lives in a trailer on the land) saw the neighbor dog (who I've suspected of killing a peacock and a turkey hen within the last two weeks) chasing the Tom turkey around. Stopped him doing it but I'm starting to think maybe that peahen isn't so missing after all. Currently on the phone with the neighbor lettin him know that if he don't keep the dog locked up it's gonna come up misisng real soon.

I wouldnt be so nice about letting him know. I would just dispatch it after catching it the second time. I am made to believe that if someone loves their pet they will make sure to keep it out of the neighbors chickens and our of harms (me) way. Kill it or catch it and take it to the pound. Also if you catch it doing it take pics/videos and charge him for every bird killed, Idk how pea fowl are priced from were you are but a pea hen will cost $100.00 here easily.

Holy Moly! Reminds me of when I lived in an old trailer and when the rains started, opossums would come up through the holes in the floor to escape the floods. Nothing like waking up at 2 am to the sound of a hissing critter.

I have talked to the neighbor. So far he has done good keeping it in. I haven't seen it and although I did lose a bird recently, it was inside the fence and looks to be some kind of very small predator... the tracks are cat-size. The politics with this neighbor are difficult as he is a friend of the family... the dog is also the father of some puppies we currently have. A big and complicated situation to be sure. Around here whites and pieds run $200 for a juvenile pair. I'd guess we lost about $350 worth of stock between the pea, turkey, and some guineas I'm now pretty sure the dog took as well. I'd like to try to get reimbursement from him but once again, I'll be keeping quiet for the sake of family politics. Easier to move on if the dog is now locked up than stir that particular pot.

Thankfully, yes. I believe she was roosting in the tree with her mother. She was a bit wet but overall doing well.

It has been a bit better the last day or two. Still crazy but at least improving! Plus I got a new Brinsea brooder and a few genetics books this past Christmas, which certainly made my day. Reading up on Genetics of The Fowl will be a welcome distraction from all the craziness! When I have some free time, that is.

That's a lot of trouble going on. I agree, that neighbor needs to keep his dog on his property.
