I am trying to build a coop that will last, house a growing flock, be easy to clean, and be safe from predators. Also needs to look good and be very functional. Being over engineered is always a safe bet and bigger is better right?

These guys have definitely outgrown this double coop. It's time for something bigger.

This is the rough plan I drew up on autocad for the bigger better coop... It is going to be 8ft wide by 12 ft deep. About 6 ft tall at top plate up to about 9ft at roof peak.

It should be a lot easier to go into to clean, feed, and water my birds.

This is the current coop that they have outgrown and the site at which the new coop will be built. They really don't mind their little old coop, they get to safely roost at night and free range all day on a couple acres.

Day 1

Get the four post set in ground, run skirt board and beam boards around to form basic frame. Square up and brace. Built trusses and rough set into place.

Built the coop floor and front wall inside, also built a cedar ramp to help them get up and in.

Leaving gaps in coop walls for air flow and ventilation. South Florida is too hot to seal up tight.
