Mud Mud Mud

I wouldn't use the pellets at all. When wet don't they breakdown into a sawdust material. That is going to form a solid mat in the litter, not allowing air to reach down. It will promote the bad kind of mold and anaerobic decomposition that leads to odor.

Don't think about drying out the ground or trying to absorb all that wetness. Think about creating a lofty, multi-texured layer that sits above the wetness and elevates the birds off the wet ground.
I love this description.

OP might still want to dig some swales/trenches to keep any additional runoff from going into the run.

My daughter lives in NC, the rain has been ridiculously unrelenting.

Oh.....unrelenting is a mild term....I have never seen rain like this..looks like a nice weekend ahead....I have always been super picky about keeping the girls clean...I am thankful for the advice...never thought to try deep litter in the run.

Quote: Why I added 'ridiculously' to it. ;-)

Organic matter, laid deep if even a little at a time, really helps with mud and odor....and it's just a far better environment, especially for confined birds.

But still, look at digging trenches to divert as much water away from the run, that really helps too.
