Safe to store feed outside when below freezing ?

Thread Starter

First winter in New England with 5 hens.  I feed pellets stored in a metal trash can in an unheated shed.

Will the feed quality suffer from fluctuations in freezing temperatures? Should I bring it inside to a warm basement?

The pellets seem fine and I have not noticed any moisture issues.

Freezing and thawing will not hurt your feed.

Welcome!  Feed will lose vitamins as it ages, and might be more of an issue in hot weather than cold.  I plan to use mine within two months of manufacture, as dated on the feed bag.  Don't store it long in any weather.  Mary
