We had a small gathering Sunday for those that we won't be seeing on Thanksgiving. I didn't fix everything and tried to serve what the guests liked. There are other dishes we usually have, but I wanted it simple. We'll have the big dinner on Thursday.

That sounds fantastic - we are having spaghetti tonight! Not quite the same is it?

We were supposed to have 30 people for dinner and I was going to serve my home grown chicken and a bazillion side dishes and desserts, but then my little ones were exposed to chicken pox and everybody cancelled. Wouldn't you know it... they didn't get cp anyway. So it's just me, dh, and my kids and they couldn't care less about doing anything. So tonight I'm having fried chicken (processed the birds myself yesterday) and mashed potatoes with vegetarian onion and herb gravy and cauliflower of some variety and dh said he'd surprise me with a nice dessert. I don't know what their main dish will be -- they're all vegetarian.

Well, I guess I'll have a nice FULL freezer, since I planned to serve chicken to everybody in large quantities (half a bird each!).

If it makes you feel any better jacy, when hubby and I were young and really poor (as opposed to old and a little poor like we are now..LOL) we once had TURKEY BOLOGNA for Thanksgiving! LOL

Sounds wonderful everyone!!! Here's ours:

23 lb turkey, brined, and roasted breast-side down (first time trying it.)
Stuffing (in a 9x13 pan; DBF wouldn't let me stuff the bird

)
mashed potatoes
giblet gravy
sweet potatoes
corn casserole
green bean casserole
cranberry sauce
rolls
squash from the garden
relish tray w/ black and green olives and home-made pickles
cheese/crackers
veggie tray and dip
I know I'm forgetting something...

PUMPKIN PIE! That's what I forgot!

BEER! I need lots of beer!

Will just be me, DBF, his parents, and his daughter & her BF. First time ever making a turkey, and first time ever that his parents will be here.

Yes, I'm a crazy woman and thus the beer
