Chicken Breed Focus - Russian Orloff

Pics
Hugs to you and your Orloff sweethearts, thank you so much for the moral support ^^
I have lost so many chickens to illness and predators that I just pray for the best, and that is for all of us.

I get sad when folks get down on themselves for issues that are out of our control. My husband just shakes his head because he knows I'll rehab any baby until its last breath. I can't help it. I feel like I brought them into this world and its my duty to be there until the end.

I'll try to post some pics of the girls when the weather is more favourible! One of the twins is mad at my hubby because he made a dent in her wood pile where she and sister hid their eggs. She follows him around the yard like she wants to beat him with a stick! :lau

Love the looks of Jet. Got any of his chicks for sale? Im starting a flock in Penasco.
You are very kind! I don't have any youngsters at the moment. Just Japanese bantams, a Brahma, a blue laced red wyandotte, and two marans. All seven will be 2 months this Sunday. They're busy beginning to integrate with the elders. I'm hoping for chicks in a few months via my broody bantam cochin when the weather lets up. She hates the snow/cold and will not do anything at the moment. All she does is sleep, eat, scratch, graze and poop :lau

That is so true!

Your DH sounds like a mean rooster xD I'd watch my back if I were him, angry hens can be vicious. I've had one jump at my face with all claws out once, that wasn't a great welcome!

Likewise. I dislike seeing baby animals under my care suffer, I want to be there for them even though oftentime it's outside my capacity. The very least I can do is be there for them, so they are not alone when they're not feeling well.

Ha! He's had plenty of experience with angry hens. They seem to know that "I" am not the one to piss off...but they love to get their daddy riled up!!

You and I are on the same page re: this issue. I have spent many of times nursing and just keeping them comfortable when all is not well. It is my responsibility, in my humble opinion. No one deserves to die alone.

They must see you as lead hen to leave you alone... but your DH musn't look like the head rooster for them, if they have a male of their own to contend with xD

Glad to know we're in the same basket on this! ^^

I picked up a Russian Orloff from Tractor Supply. I'm reasonably certain it is a rooster now and am wondering how noisy of a bird they are. I would like to keep him but my neighbors (I live In town) work late hours and I dont want to be waking them up at 5 in the morning. I can build him a cage to put him in the garage over night so his crows are muffled but if he's quiet enough I would far rather leave him loose in the yard.

I love my little guy too much to rehome him yet. He is now 15 weeks and hes my quietest chicken! Havent heard a crow from him and I live in the city limits as well, so I can't keep him if he starts to be loud! He makes lots if curious "tweeting" sounds, like he's talking to me and the hens as he tilts his head like a dog, then he will make some sounds when he wants treats, my marans and welsummer hens drowns his sounds out though! 🤣
How old is your handsome man?

About the same age as yours. I got him in April when he was perhaps a week old. I alsogot three barred rocks (was told they were Lav Orps 😆) and three RIRs. Lost two of the RIRs and one Barred to a stray cat. They were all supposed to be pullets though so I was quite surprised when one started crowing last week! He's too handsome a fella to get rid of though, so he'd going into the garage. He's the guy pictured below.
