Does rat snake affect the flavor of eggs?

A few of my pullets started laying in late Dec.  I let them forage in the backyard for about 2 hrs before dark, and one of my RSLs found a hibernating baby rat snake yesterday.  She killed it, and wolfed it down before any of the other chickens saw her.   Does "snake" change the flavor of the eggs?

Not that I've noticed. We have a lot of what I call "worm" snakes around here (little snakes that borough into the ground and eat earthworms). My girls scratch them up and eat them throughout the Spring and Summer (poor little things, I save them when I can) and my eggs have never tasted funny. They also eat lizards, mice and just about anything that wont eat them first.

Your eggs will be alright smile.png

To be honest, I've never tasted a change in the flavor of eggs no matter what my chickens eat, not even garlic, onions, or fish. No one I've given eggs to have complained of an odd taste, either. Maybe you just have to be really sensitive or dislike those flavors to really notice!

Snakes, if you are to eat them yourself, really just taste like chicken so I hear. There really isn't a distinct flavor that could pass on to the eggs like with fish. They should taste fine :)
