I'm new here and new to the backyard chicken adventure. I am looking forward to puting healthy eggs on the table and teaching the kids where their food comes from. Right now we are in the coop drawing and building stage, so no chickens yet.

Hi Mom, Welcome to Backyard chickens. The Learning Center is the best place to start a chicken education. It should answer most of your questions. You might like to check out the coops section as well for ideas, sizes, different styles, and materials.

Hi and a warm welcome to byc- great to have you onboard. Good luck with your coop planning- just make it bigger than you may originally have anticipated cos I guarantee you will want more chickens in the future!

All the best

Feel free to ask questions, there's a ton of information here and a lot of friendly, helpful members. Using the Search feature (upper left, under the logo) can help you find a lot of answers too.

When planning your coop, make it as large as possible. That will make the chickens more comfortable and easier for you to keep clean.

Thanks for joining us!
