Free range and broody?

Hi im not very experienced with guineas. I raised 6 a few years back and had no luck. They became adults and i kept them in my barn. I finally let them free range but they would disappear the whole day then come back at night. This happened for a week and then they just stopped coming back. I kept them well watered and well fed. What did i do wrong?! And my other question was will guineas incubate their own eggs. Obviously then can go broody or they wouldnt exist. But are they like chickens and good incubators. Or like pheasants where they will only incubate if they were incubated as keets.

Some predators will slaughter whole flocks if they can. Dogs are a good example of this. Granted it's a bit odd that they would take out a free ranging flock of flight-capable birds like guineas, but being quite honest, guineas are dumb as rocks and have a terrible propensity for getting themselves cornered and eaten, so it's certainly not out of the question.
