I have a two week old chick that has had problems with its leg since birth. I Had a chick that had the same problem last year and was able to splint it and it resolved itself and the chick was fine. However, that hasn't worked with this little one and now the foot seems to be turning green. I've read that EE's feet can be green, but this is just the bum leg and not both of them. She had a small spot on the "knee" that was swollen and did get a little raw but has scabbed over now. Just want to make sure there's no infection. Any insight anyone can give would be great. Thank you.

My monitor is not showing a whole lot of difference in color between the two legs...the leg color in itself is not alarming. I can't see any injury. The scab may have been from trying to walk on the hock if the foot is not bearing weight.

Your chick does clearly have curled toes which can be a nutritional deficiency.

Have you tried putting her on Chick Saver (vitamins/minerals). You might even make it slightly stronger than the package says for a loading dose for 2 days, then back to normal dose.

Sometimes that can work wonders on curled toes.

Otherwise, it is a deformity from hatch, usually do to wrong humidity in the incubator. That is harder to treat, and if splinting/booting is not working, it may be permanent.

It won't really matter as long as she can move around okay to eat and drink. However, as she grows, you'll have to watch her to make sure it is bearing weight well as that leg may be weaker.

My thoughts.
