What is your favorite feed?

@Percheron chick I agree with you 100%. I want to buy locally and support local farmers. I'm a high school history teacher, and love to talk about the creation of Coops.

I'll check out my local coop and see if I can buy a feed that has animal protein in it instead of soy protein.

I was answering, with my opinion, as to why folks might not like Purina....and added my experience with their chicken feed.
Had nothing to do with who owns the company, just commenting on the name brand.
Quote: Purina has had some significant dog food recalls in the past.

I quit using Purina chicken feed last summer when they had an outbreak of grain mites and I found a better feed that I've stuck with since.

We feed our girls all kinds of good vegetable scraps.

My questions was what brand of feed do you all use?

I've seen that lay crumbles are the best, but I wonder what brand to use.

I use Mazuri feed that is a high end zoo feed that is put out by Land-O-Lakes /Purina Mills. It contains a good amount of animal proteins and posts all the ingredients of there feed online.

If for some reason I cant get the Mazuri feed I get Purina Wildlife Game Bird Feed which is about the same as the Mazuri Game Bird feed.

I also use a Aquatic Carni-Blend and a good pigeon grain mix in my feed.

the brands i use = layer: purina or nutrena, feather fixer: nutrena, scratch: our feed store brand+bombgaars, in not sure what the oyster shell brand is and the treats we get for them are nutrena.
