Hello,

I will be setting LF Cochin and LF Sal Favs next week for a 2/5/16 hatch date (give or take). Eggs arrive mid-week (hopefully) and I hope to set them on Friday 1/15/16.

Who wants to join the fun??

Lori

Eggs have been shipped

Mine are being shipped on Monday, and as long as they make it by Thursday morning, I'll join you in setting on Friday. I have a Brinsea Advance 20. I'm setting five mixed (my own) and 15 shipped from mypetchicken. I won't know those breeds until they arrive.

Surprise eggs - that's exciting!

The eggs are coming from two different sources - so I am hoping they both arrive Thursday.... You can join even if yours come later. The more the merrier

I'll join! I'm getting my 1st incubator on Monday from Amazon. I've been collecting eggs from my Exchequer Leghorn, LF Cochin, and ameracanas.

Do either of you know what temp is too cold to collect eggs from? It dropped to 28 degrees this morning and I wonder if cold fertile eggs will hatch?

Were they just outside in that temperature for a short period of time? They should be ok. I've read of eggs being hatched in far colder weather. Maybe an expert can weigh in.

Yes, they were outside for a few hours. I did research that even frig eggs have hatched, so I'll remain hopeful.

My incubator is called Magicfly; weird name, but it got good reviews for how affordable it was. Also bought a temp/ hygrometer and even a candler. I'm very excited to try incubating eggs

but also trying to be realistic that it may not work my 1st time.

This is also my first time incubating eggs and I know that shipped eggs have low success rates, and even lower for first timers, but I'm doing it. I'm also putting in 5 of my own chickens' eggs, and about three Trader Joe eggs to see what happens. I got the Brinsea 20 as my main incubator but I also have another one that is my back up, but it only holds ten eggs. Can't remember the name of it. Something like "moo" lol.
